Welcome to The Outer Wall
You’ve found a living relic — and an active one.
The Outer Wall is a modern Citadel BBS, built in the spirit of classic bulletin board systems: shared spaces, persistent conversations, files, ideas, and people — no feeds, no algorithms, no “engagement optimization.” Just text, community, and time.
How to Connect
Classic Mode (Recommended)
For the authentic experience, connect directly:
telnet outerwall.net
or, for encrypted access:
ssh citadel@outerwall.net
If you’ve never used a BBS before: don’t worry. The menus are friendly, exploration is encouraged, and nothing here bites unless you ask it to.
Web Mode
You can also browse and participate through your web browser. It’s convenient — but like listening to a vinyl record through Bluetooth: functional, not quite the full magic.
What Is This Place?
Outerwall is a commons.
A slow network.
A space where words persist longer than a scroll wheel flick.
Expect:
- Ongoing conversations instead of comment sections
- Rooms with purpose (and some without)
- People who type more than they swipe
- Occasional weirdness (this is a feature)
House Rules (Short Version)
- Be curious
- Be civil
- Don’t be a dick
- The sysop can see you, but mostly prefers not to
Pull up a chair.
Pick a handle.
Say hello.
The wall is open.
